If you have Twitter, Facebook and a blog, generally the idea of having your own site has at one point come to mind. Here is how to do it!In the next few weeks we will be posting a series of how-to articles that explain how to create basic Web sites. We will focus on using WordPress at first and even dabble in getting a reader base (preferably not through spam, sorry if our constant updates on Facebook bothers you, but not really).
If you already have a blog then your chances of making a site last are a great deal more than just pulling something out of nowhere. Many sites like FML, Texts from last night, People of Walmart and even Play This started from a simple blog idea that spawned into a reader driven site.
So if you’ve ever wanted a yourname.com (and for under $10 a month) or perhaps yesIamThatawesome.net the upcoming tutorials will help you out. Granted a basic knowledge of HTML will surely help you (it’s easier than you think and you probably even know a great deal of it) it’s not required. More complex sites force you to code things through tags and different languages, but if you want a basic site like FML or a self titled portfolio you can very cheaply do this with WordPress.org’s Web client. Best part is you can access and edit the site from anywhere without having to download things (half of these posts are done straight from my iPhone, pictures and all).
If there are any specific web servers you would like us to look into, or particular topics you want covered throw a comment below this article or e-mail us at evolutionfreelancemedia@gmail.com. We’ll save the advanced Web building stuff for the IT nerds, but we can work most of those issues out as well.
