Apptastic Friday: Get in shape, make a fish die and train pets

Apptastic Friday

Apple has decided to let a few odd ones make it through approval, but nothing like this. This weeks Apptastic Friday features Run Keeper, Fishbate, Pet’s Live and Fat-a-Pult. Let us know what you think about these apps in the comment section for your chance to win an iTunes gift card!

Apptastic Friday will provide a listing of some of the newest and most random apps currently available. If you would like Play This to review your app, e-mail us at owner@play-this.org.

The following apps have not been provided from their developers nor paying to have the following reviews.

Fishbate

Fishbate

Disguised as a strange game where you beat a fish to death, in in fact a creepy game of getting a fish off. If you would like to to back through centuries of word changes, perhaps by that definitions of “dieing” fits, but in actuality it’s still just plain weird. Once Apple figures out exactly what it is, the game will probably be removed.

This game isn’t recommended for at work play, as it makes some pretty… interesting sounds.

Fishbate get’s 5/5 burritos, because if does exactly what is intended. Even if it’s awkward.

Run Keeper

Run Keeper

Run keeper is a spiffy free app that allows you to track times and distances ran and various other workout related activities. Although the interface isn’t great, the price of FREE sort of makes Run Keeper worth it. The GPS takes a minutes to kick in, but when you want to get an exact measure of how far you run, the intensity level you were running at and a map of the area you ran, Run Keeper is great. The manual input mode is only helpful to remember items for later on, but it obviously can’t measure anything on it’s own.

Run Keeper get’s 4/5 burritos, for being free and pretty helpful.

Pets LIVE

Pets LIVE

Pets LIVE is not the most innovative, creative or fun, but it still remains addictive game to help pass the time. In the past there have been other LIVE games, but this has as easier interface, which all around makes the game better to play. The most obnoxious part of the game is the vibration, which luckily can be turned off.

The game should also still be considered a beta, since it’s continuously being updated and upgraded. Just try not to give into the paying real money for coins in these types of games.

Pets LIVE gets  3/4 burritos, for being meh.

Fat-a-pult

fat-a-pult

fat-a-pult is a relatively simple game where you switch between two guys, who jump through the air eating as much food as they possibly can. Just avoid the item that causes you to yak, eat some canned beans and you will get a rockin’ score. The app isn’t that great of a time waster and you can’t enjoy it with the sound on while in public, so sadly it diminishes it’s value.

Check out the lite version of fat-a-pult, now available in the app store.

fat-a-pult gets 3/5 burritos, even though it wants to eat so many more.
