My Fitness Instructor created by App developer Big Ideas has created a brilliant new fitness trainer and damn does it work!
Although there are numerous fitness apps out on the market, My Fitness Trainer is by far the most realistic training experience you can get on the iPhone or iPod. From start to finish you a greated with the energetic voice of trainer Jim Preece, British Military Fitness, who helps motivate you to stay on track. This app is particularly great for beginners but by no means is limited as such.
Personally I’ve tried quite a few fitness apps like iFitness, but as a novice in the field it wasn’t very helpful. After one 35 minute low intensity cardio session wit My Fitness Trainer, I could immediately feel the awesome burn of a great work. In fact it even took a day for full recovery after the high intensity training.
What separates My Fitness Instructor from the rest is that it’s more personalized and assists you from warm up to warm down. There are video instructions with the proper body positioning for each work out and the fast pace of the exercise make it fun. Most other apps are essentially just podcast recordings but this app switches up different workouts in each setting, so it’s not just the same boring exercise each time.
Personal trainers generally cost between $50 – $100 per session, but with the My Fitness Instructor app it lets you continue to use the same training session for only one payment of $15. They are also planning on including various other trainers for other methods of exercise in the near future. There has been no mention how much each additional trainer would cost yet but it’s guaranteed to be worth it.
According to the app I was also doing a pretty lame job of pre-cardio exercise before training for my races, but these new 30 minute training sessions will be quickly incorporated in.
The app features three training intensities (low, medium and high) with three focus options (cardio, muscular or both) with sessions lasting from 15 minutes up to an hour. The app also can track up to two different profiles and holds a history log of all exercises. This tool is extremely beneficial for marking your improvements and keeping up with corresponding training schedules. When you train for races, generally you need to run at least five days a week and it can be a pain to remember all your cross training exercises. With this app it’s all in the palm of your hand though!
A cool feature included in the app is also the ability to connect with friends that also have the app. One individual will be the group leader and the rest members, which makes it easier to work together in a fitness group.
The only negative feature on the app is the My BMF, which seems to open up their Website in an in-app browser. The Website seems to be functional but not in a mobile format.
In future updates we would love to see either a mobile site put in or perhaps even some dietary guides for proper eating before and after work outs. The ability to post or connect your stats on Facebook and Twitter would also be very helpful as many people are taking to social networking sites to essentially track their life.
Play This magazine fully recommends this app for everyone!
For a full list of their features check out their press release posted last week.
Our nutritionist will also be running through a few training sessions with this app and post her impressions later this week.
