Now Twilight and the iPad have two things in common, they both suck and can’t be in direct sunlight.
According to individuals on Twitter and CNET, users of the recently released Apple iPad have claimed that the tablet overheats in direct sunlight. There is not a vast amount of information on what temperature it was outside, but having a black screen and no internal fan can easily lead to anything getting overheated.
CNET stated that PC magazine editor Zach Honig posted an image of his iPad displaying a temperature warning after being out in the sun. The temperature for New York, where he is located, is generally in the 70s and is relatively cool. He also placed the iPad in his fridge, which he claimed cured it of its heatstroke. [Note - don't ever place an electronic in a fridge or freezer as condensation will build up and cause even more problems.]
Taking a peak inside the iPad you’ll notice what looks to be quite a bit of hardware in an aluminum frame. Essentially it’s an oven. Anything of the proportions the iPad wields should have some form of a cooling system as a result of the design. Perhaps Apple should have taken it outside for testing rather in the darkest parts of their facility to hide it from “information leaks”.
The iPhone is essentially built the same way, but it also is much smaller and the screen does not heat up as much as a result. Applications like hand warmer even take advantage of this faulty design by causing the screen to overheat and warm a persons hands.
What do you think about Apple’s serious design flaw?
