Unsuck WMATA communication

Inconsistent information, spelling errors and delayed notices

DC Metro, better known as WMATA, is infamous for essentially everything, but more so their poor communication.

At 1:18 p.m. a woman jumped in front of the WMATA green line at Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station. It took WMATA nearly 40 minutes to relay this information to their first response, which is Twitter. An hour later a full preliminary response from their the metro Website was finally released.

Shortly after WMATA noted the “trapped” female under the green line train, @DCfireems stated that the jumper was in fact stuck under the train. At no point did the metro make note of this tragic addition or even state it in their preliminary report.

WMATA is also under scrutiny for the recent withholding of information when a woman was raped and car jacked, but it took over a month for them to release any information. The result of their terribly delayed response? The man who was arrested shortly after the initial report was found with a 13-year-old girl who was also raped. WMATA’s excuse was that they were to busy with all of the incidents that occurred during the blizzard. You know, that blizzard where a majority of the metro system wasn’t even working.

What do you think of the nation’s capitol metro system? Do you feel they should also be charging their riders additional money as proposed, while cutting services?
