Operation Black Rage: 4Chan's Army Tricks Hot Topic

4Chan FFFUUUUUUU all over Hot Topics Face

4Chan, the lovable little rascals of the Internet has once again joined forces to protect meme’s from being capitalized.

Within a 24 hour window, 4Chan and the waves of fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu meme lovers joined forces to prevent the retail chain Hot Topic from capitalizing on their work. For those unfamiliar with the meme, fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu is commonly used in a comic series, and it explains humors life events. It’s sort of like Seinfeld, but quick and dirty.

fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu is usually associated with a particular character in the comic based meme, and that is Rage Face. As pictured above in the PSA from 4Chan, Rage Face was put on a Hot Topic T-Shirt, where they began selling it online and in stores. Clearly those who take time to create these humorous comics are not fond of their work being stolen, and the army raised their torches.

Rather than simply complaining or even attacking their servers, 4Chan users (Redditors as well) began creating the most racist fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu comics they could think of. They began sending these comics to Fox News and other mainstream media outlets that often refuse to check sources, but love a good story.

After threats of boycotts and negative publicity, Hot Topic informed their Facebook followers that they would be removing the shirt from their website immediately and the following week from retail stores.

With hive minds such as Reddit and 4Chan joining forces, do you feel these groups could create political movements with as much success?
