A Year in Review – 2010

In 2010 we had quite the year: from a record snow fall locking us indoors for two weeks straight, the Facebook kobeface worm evolving more each week, new endevors as we change Evolution Freelance Media (EFM) into Play This Media (PTM) and a new direction for our content. We wanted to take a moment and look back and some of the biggest Play This news from 2010.

Just hours away from 2011, keep an eye out for new projects from Play This. We will begin free e-classes on social media, furthering our resource pages and quite a few surprises. As always, feel free to let us know if there is something you would like covered. We are here for you, to empower, educate and eventually take over the world (ok maybe just take over the world).

From all of us to you, have a wonderful new year. Please don’t drink and drive.

Facebook alert: darkroomevents.com message leads to phishing site

The first wave of the infection starts with mass Facebook messages being sent out. The second attack will then use the Facebook accounts that the first attack successfully stole and then spam on all of their friends walls to go to a particular site and download a virus scanner, which is in fact a virus itself.

Virus: Facebook Message ‘You Tube’ Contains Virus

A new round of Facebook viruses are being sent through direct messages, often with the subject line of “You Tube”. If you have received a message containing a strange URL and a subject of “You Tube,” it will more than likely contain a malicious virus. This may be a new form of the koobface worm.

Censorship and Politics

Social Media Woes: Soldier Posts Classified Information On Facebook

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, a soldier posted information about a raid in a Palestinian territory. The soldier posted details including the whereabouts of the attack and at what time it would take place. Luckily the soldiers friends reported the update that resulted in a cancellation of the attack. The now court-martialed soldier started by saying, “On Wednesday we clean up Qatanah, and on Thursday, god willing, we come home.”

No: Journalist/Blogger shield laws are not at stake in Chen’s home raid

Unfortunately for Jason Chen and more likely the rest of Gizmodo, they are not associated with a press association. To claim yourself as a journalist is one thing, to write opinion pieces as a blogger and claim to be a journalist is another.
