Using Facebook's New Comment and Editing System

facebook comment system updateFacebook has rolled out several new features this week, one of which affects users on and off site. The Facebook comment system previously in place forced users to press a button before a comment would be submitted; however, now you just hit the enter button. Though this would appear to be a very minor change, many people are having issues transitioning to the new system as it’s much easier to accidentally send a message rather than creating a line break.

Facebook was likely aware  that users would have difficulties with this so they added the edit comment option, or what I would like to call the five second rule. After pressing enter to submit a comment, you have five seconds before it actually sends. If you want to edit it, simply mouse over the comment and click the X button. This will allow you to edit the comment.

For those who are not into hotkeys, now would be a great time to learn a few tricks. Previously users could hit enter to create a line break or space between text like you do in a word document. Now you have to hold Shift and Enter at the same time.  See the video below for a better example on how to use the new comment system.
