Photosynth Comes to the iPhone, Creates Panoramic Photos

photosynth is awesome

If you haven’t heard of Microsoft’s Photosynth in the past, today is a great one to get acquainted if you have an iPhone. Previously Photosynth only allowed users to upload a series of images to their cloud based application, and it would stitch them together in a panoramic form. The tool was great, but you had to work blind as you were unable to check to see if you were getting every corner.

The iPhone version of Photosynth makes using the tool incredibly simple. You start by taping the screen and point your iPhone camera at one object. Continue to move the phone and Photosynth will automatically take photos that connect to the previous one. As you can see in the panoramic Synth I created this morning it works well, but the iPhones automatic lighting correction can cause the images to look a bit off when the program smooths everything together. Also when you walk your dog and she gets in one of the images it sort of messes things up too. When embedding a synth into a website the quality is also degraded, so take a look at the actual host site to see a better version.

Overall consensus: download it now. You can log into Photosynth either using a Microsoft based email address or Facebook, and of course share it on those platforms.

Download Photosynth on iTunes, Free.
