We’ve heard in the past how important Barak Obama’s campaigns online were to reach younger audiences, but what happens when your running mate thinks a step ahead? A republican from New York is learning the hard way that just because you own a .com domain, that it’s quite possible to purchase a similar site domain with a .org, .biz, etc.
Jane Corwin is running for congress as a representative of New York, and as you will notice in the screenshot something is a bit fishy. Rather than a search bar at the top it appears to be seeking your social security number and bank number (this isn’t functional), and the news headlines are parodies based on her actual site. Corwin’s real site is located at janecorwin.com, but the individuals working on the Murphy campaign purchased janecorwin.org. Clearly the site was created to be humorous in nature, which is why it’s not considered to be libelous.
Do you think these types of actions will be more common place in the future?
From the .org site
Jane Corwin is running for Congress because she has a shitload of money. To meet the challenge of running on the same insane Republican fiscal policies that have led to huge deficits, reckless spending and a failing economy, she offers a no-nonsense approach to getting elected: spend, spend, spend. Based on her thirty-six years of private sector experience, Jane Corwin knows that her family is like, super rich.
