For the past month something new has been in the works that could change how people find careers, and today we are happy to announce that our idea is going to turned into a reality. Bigfoot Careers has officially begun its development, planning, and information gathering processes; which means next week we will take our idea to the public and start to seek funds so that we can build the Bigfoot tool. We have officially launched on RocketHub to seek public funding!
What is Bigfoot Careers?
Like the search for a great long-term career, Bigfoot seems like an impossible thing to find. With this idea in mind we are planning to create several tools that integrate with a community of Gen Y career hunters so that they can not only find Bigfoot, but embrace his hairiness. We plan to launch this network in three phases:
- Embracing current technology, and improving it:
- The Expert Network (TEN)
- The Bigfoot

Free Bigfoot
You are on the hunt for Bigfoot (your career) and that is your current job, which means you shouldn’t have to pay us. Simple as that. You can send us Red Bull, rum and other things to keep us motivated though, no pressure!
We will have a standard job board; however, based on community requirements there will be quality assured posts. That means specific dates, company information, perm or temp, and all posts will expire in two weeks. There will be other requirements as well, but these will be decided upon from the communities and career seekers.
We will launch a network designed almost entirely around what career seekers want. Specifically, we will create a feature proposal board where the community can vote on what will benefit them the most. The other 10 percent of decision making on the network will come from Team Bigfoot. This community will allow career seekers to speak with fellow Gen Y hunters, mentors, and companies. We will also launch the first part of the Bigfoot tool that will later integrate with the entire site. This will be our first outlet to allow hunters to prove they are more than a degree or resume, but in fact experts. Employers are currently searching for you and your online presence, so why not give them a warm welcome? We will allow career hunters to prove they are experts by providing valuable insight in a public way while reinforcing the importance of privatizing photos of you doing keg stands on Facebook.
The Bigfoot tool will assimilate the other two phases, and create a completely new way for companies to seek the next generation of expert employees. Right now the current career hunt process is outdated, and this tool will revolutionize how you interact with prospective companies. This tool will increase communication, accountability, and prove we are more than words on a piece of paper while reducing the associated stress for finding your first long-term career. We will also be working with non-profits that could use Gen Y innovators in exchange for experience, and potentially schools. More details will be provided to the alpha and beta testing teams that we select after our first rounding of funding, or you can just ask CEO Elliot S. Vokman.
Why Gen Y?
Attempting to revolutionize something is rather difficult as it is, so why not work from the ground up? Baby boomers are starting to retire, and Gen Y employees are beginning to find their place in the world.
Current job searching process:
- You get a degree, or you work your way up from bottom of the totem pole
- You create a resume
- You find a job site and send that resume to everyone
- You get some auto-rejection emails, and maybe even a snail mail rejection
- You then add more fluff to those resumes as stress begins to build
- Then 50 insurance agencies call you to join their sales team, even though your background is in physics
- You take the job you hate, or you manage to find the bottom of a larger totem pole
- Eventually you get promoted, and you no longer care about joining the career field that you wanted
If this sounds familiar, it is because this process has been going on for ages. Change is not easy, so we want to work with the next generation of employees who doesn’t want to go through this system. Gen Y employees get kicked around, are often referred to as pretentious, and supposedly won’t earn their keep. Bigfoot wants to change this, and help companies find the next generation of employees that will grow along with them.
Bigfoot’s Process:
- Empower you to prove you are experts
- Allow you to build experience
- Find a great company for you to spread your wings
- Connect directly with that company (no third-party recruiters, just putting your foot right in the door)
It might also relevant to mention that Team Bigfoot consists of Gen Y workers. A team that is tired of seeing our counterparts take jobs rather than careers. If you are tired of the outdated process, help us create change and modernize the system.
