Tron: Legacy is nearing its silver screen debut and Disney has now released an iPhone app.

Although the included game on the all is less than pleasing, the graphics, music and previews are great for any fan.

There isn’t any exclusive content on the app, but the game may lead to some hints at what may be seen in the movie. Already seen in two of the promo posters are the upgraded tanks, so it’s likely these will be a larger part of the film.

I want to know where the sprite is. Perhaps the game system is to advanced for a yes/no object, but more than likely that beloved feature will soon be unveiled as well.

Tron: Legacy will be released December 17, 2010. It will star Jeff Bridges, Julie Wilde and some other actors you’ve never really heard of, but it will be glorious! Also, I oddly enough work with a Web developer named Kevin Flynn. Tron is real! Not really though.

Zombie Duck iPhone game has no zombies and has terrible alignment.

The developers of Zombie Duck clearly are trying to appeal to a particular genre of people, but they failed miserably. Currently there are quite a few clones of Duck Hunt, but Zombie Duck doesn’t follow through well.

Slap on some strange teeth, add the option to use six different guns and some poorly built controls and you have Zombie Duck. When in game and the pause button is used, the pause option will remain on screen when resumed at times, t00.

Outside of the actual game though, the UI is great. There is an option to e-mail the developers directly though the game, which is great because they have so many bugs. They also have a solid, user friendly navigation and the in game blog is a nice touch.

Play This does not recommend Zombie Duck. It is currently free at the time of writing this review.

Next up: South Park Mega Millionaire. Repetitive, but still entertaining.

‘Say What You See’, a brand new, highly compelling puzzle game for the iPhone and iPad is launched.

Play This magazine will be giving out promo codes when Say What you See is released in the iTunes store. Make sure you check back with us soon, for your chance to get your hands on a brilliant new game. Full review to come soon as well. To get previews, check out their Facebook page. Jon Hamblin is also worked with the awesome British Military Fitness app, which probably means this game will rock!

Press Release

Today, Big Ideas Corporation, the London-based developer of innovative iPhone apps, is proud to announce the release of ‘Say What You See: Music Fest’ on June 11th (App Store approval permitting). It’s the first in a series of insanely addictive, mind-bending games set to top the iTunes games chart.

Say What You See (SWYS) is a picture puzzle game series with 50 cryptic clues hidden throughout a beautifully hand-painted scene. To play it, you’ll need the observational skills needed for Where’s Waldo to spot the clues and the lateral thinking needed for Dingbats to solve the clues.

Can you guess what this message means?

SWYS: Music Fest is the first release, which features a festival scene stuffed with hidden references to recent bands and artists that the player must decipher. For example, a picture of a half dollar, represents 50 Cent.

Music Fest is the first of a series of monthly games. The SWYS series will give gamers, music and movie lovers and art enthusiasts a regular addictive challenge to enjoy, wherever they are, on their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. SWYS Great 80’s Movies will follow in July. A fully HD version of SWYS: Music Fest will be released for the iPad in June.

Each game centres around the virtual canvas, painted in painstaking detail by renowned artist Amie Bolissian. The user must navigate around the canvas, cracking as many clues as quickly as possible. It’s as simple as spotting the clue and guessing at the answer. A scoreboard will show how you rank against fellow players and Facebook friends.

The artwork for the virtual canvases has been exclusively painted by fine artist Amie Bolissian, who has exhibited worldwide. Of Say What You See, Amie Bolissian said, “I’m excited to bring my love of fine art to the wireless world and give users a creative and challenging way to spend their downtime.”

To get a preview of Say What You See, the artist first worked with a similar concept for Empire Magazine, which is quite a breath of fresh air when relating to ridiculous Apple app games like Monkey Flight.

Pricing and Availability

SWYS Music Fest is free to download and comes with 25 brainteasers. Users can double the number of puzzles to play with by downloading the premium version, available for $1.99 / £1.19. Subsequent canvases, including SWYS Great 80s Movies, will come with 50 puzzles at $1.99/ £1.19.

Use of the joypad is pretty good since all you need to do is point at the flesh eaters and leg rip. Various power ups appear as your make the bodies drop, which include armour, health, point mulitpliers and tons of guns.

Play This Magazine recommends BloodnGuns, which we totally though was another gangsta’ game.

editor@playthismag.com

www.playthismag.com

NFS Undercover gets 4/5 burritos on the Play This burrito rating systems

Need for Speed has long since been forgotten with a new title each year, but like the last few NFS Undercover was rushed out and has little to offer. There are very minor differences from the previous NFS pursuit games, but does not disappoint the fans of previous NFS games. The game play is fast paced and has a high replayability level when cops are thrown into the mix, but as far as purchasing this game goes for it’s new features, not worth the moolah.

The only negative thing on this game, aside from it being relatively boring after a few hours of straight game-play (which is bound to happen) is the terrible sound effects (SFX) throughout the game. One of the most annoying things that can be stuck in a game much like a film are unnecessary SFX. When starting your car from a stopped position it makes one of the most fowl tire screeching noises, but this would be perfectly ok if you floored it. This happens when even tapping on the gas peddle, which obviously is a bit ridiculous and relatively annoying.

Graphics & Cinematics: The graphics are great for a racing type game, but as most NFS games are not meant to be entirely realistic there is still a cartoony/Gone in 60 seconds feel to it. The cut scenes/cinematics of the game are another story, as they have live action cut scenes. For whatever reason they decided to get singer Christina Milian (pictured below) as their leading actress and did a terrible job, but she shouldn’t feel bad as all of the acting was trash. 3/5

Christina Milian - It's sad that this picture alone brings in 1,000 visitors a week.

SFX & Music: While the SFX were especially poor, the music was great. Any racing game that features intense speeds and running from the cops is loosely associated with some sort of techno/trance music with a fast paced beat. While there were only a few well known artists on the sound track, the mixes were still a great fuel to the fire. 4/5

Online/Multiplayer: The multiplayer feature has some new editions for the NFS series as they finally have some original content that you can not get during the actual game play. Cops and Robbers is a new feature that allows you to take place of the in game officers and take down the offenders. The game is just a glorified version of tag and is pretty unbalanced in the game play. Playing regular races is also very unbalanced as it doesn’t have a matching system. A new feature for NFS is that photo mode, which allows you to pause the game and take a photo of your current situation. [Example of ours shown below] 4/5

The 5-0 don't like when you run people off the road

Achievements: For those of you looking for easy achievements, NFS Undercover is the game for you. After just a few hours of game play you can get nearly 75 percent of the entire lot. Simply put rent this game, rack up on achievements and once you’ve had your fill ditch it. 5/5

Random annoyances:

There is no main menu and the user interface is a pain.

The AI can push you around and kill your cars engine but you can’t do it back.

The terrible SFX.

Photo mode’s photo is relatively hard to find.

Although the game may not look like much and is not visually exciting, Mob Wars provides a great deal of boredom killing fun. Although Zynga has a newer version, the concept of Mob Wars has been around for at least a decade stemming all the way back to our faithful TI-83 graphing calculator.

This game is a Web based, Play This will not hold it to the same standards as the next generation consoles games.

Pictured below is a display of the current amount of property editor EvO has.

*”Office hours cause us to have to much free time… this is my main solution”

Mob Wars is not a game that you have to put much time into it, which makes it great to go back and forth to as you have time to kill. Obviously you would not be wasting your time when at home when you can choose Bad Company or Left 4 Dead (review up this week).

Simply buy as much property as you can, fight when you have a few moments and pull in as many mobsters as you can.

The biggest difficulty in the game is starting up, once you are pulling in a good amount of cash flow you can basically just deposit your money once a day. Second pain in the ass is getting your mob to epic proportions. Most of your Facebook friends hate you for sending them all those invites, so the best bet is to add random people into your limited friends profile.

More tips listed below…

The replayability keeps you coming back and ranking up is easy as pie. A great boredom killer but in the full view of Web games it’s only so-so.

We give this game a 4/5 burritos.

*Tips:

When purchasing properties, buy 10 at a time for each time you buy something it’s value goes up.

Do not attack people with mobs larger than yours… but do attack ones closet to your skill for the most experience.

Check out a persons stats before you attack, if they have a casino there is a better chance of them having more money.

Before depositing money, try to purchase as much as you can because the 10% tends to hurt.

editor@playthismag.com

Hell’s Highway (HH) in the next installment in the Brothers in Arms series that places you into WW2 as Baker, experiencing the war as he would. While the story line and cinematics of the game are rather nice, the game play makes Hell’s High way bleak and tiresome.

To quickly sum this game up is best done as a glorified version of wack-a-mole. The skill required in this game is more so based on luck and timing and a majority of the game you simply pop up, shoot at an enemy and go back to hiding. There are a few other portions of this game and the multiplayer is weak at best. While the sound and graphics of the game are awesome it does not push it to a “good” game status.

Graphics & Cinamatics: Hells Highway is clearly a next generation console game as the graphics are great and the cut scenes or cinamatics for the game are rather bad ass. It feels as if you are in the midst of the mini series Band of Brothers with some terrible game play in the middle of it. Honestly if there was a bit less of the tedious game play it would pass off as a decent game. Graphics are good, but not great and there seems to be some issues with their rag doll effect. Some instances such as pictured below are cases where a small pile of rubble can prevent you from walking trough an area.3/5

This small pile of crap prevents a soldier from exploring the world.

Music & SFX: One of our favorite thing about a war based game (aside from high destructibility to the surrounding world) is premo SFX for gun fire, explosions and blood squirting from your victims. The SFX in Hells Highway were spot on and made for a great experience even if the game was weak. 5/5

Gameplay: HH has a rather bad ass and pretty deep story line (for

video game) but the game play was terrible. Gamers are allowed to outsmart their enemies and suppress them with their extended arms or squads provided but more often then not, all they can do is shoot at walls. They often miss targets, especially your bazooka team that could make your life easier when taking out artillery, often shoot a corner or small thing in the way of the rocket, taking out most of that squad. The destruct ability in this game is almost non-existent. When shooting a tank at a wall you expect to see some damage or even smoke, but this yields nothing. Later in the game you can shoot out some windows but that’s about it.

The physical game play that takes up a majority of the game requires you to hide behind some sort of cover, pop up and use suppressing fire and simply wait for the enemy to poke their head out. Half the time enemies are so poorly placed that you can still pop shots at their legs until they die. Head shots are also the most ridiculous thing in the game, half of your shots will cause a cut scene to show your enemies head getting blown in half. While this is good old fashion gory goodness after the 30th head shot you get bored. 2/5 and this is being modest.

Just a bit buggy

Multiplayer: HH has a rather weak multiplayer mode, which resembles that of Day of Defeat (modded Steam game). While it does resemble that of DOD it has the terrible game play like that of the rest of HH. The easiest way to play is by rushing to a location in the middle of the map and camping out till enemies come by, other than that there is such a small amount of people wanting to play causing the maps to be much to large. Basically it’s boring as hell and not worth the time. 2/5

Replayability: HH has some of the most pathetic gameplay causing the replayability to be just a terrible. What’s worse is that the AI is based on a one pattern program, meaning each time you restart a level they go to the exact same place as before. Even playing Hells Highway on harder difficulties makes little impact in playing the game again, although the story is also decent, it’s not something you really want to go back too. It would seem the more difficult you make the game the less resistant you are to enemies. 1/5

Achievements: Achievements in the game are pretty easy with exception of the finding of hidden objects. KILLROYS are the biggest pain in the ass in the game. Penciled in artwork that you have to find in obscure locations is not exactly a fun activity. In all the achievements are easy to get but you won’t rack up without some effort. 4/5

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway receives a 2.5/5

Did someone lose something?

Too Human, may not have been human enough

editor@playthismag.com Too Human had us split down the middle on all counts and as much as we originally thought it was be brilliant, it left us with a fowl aftertaste. While the graphics at times looked amazing, others it would become pixilted and have missing sections of the game (there would be random white spaces where walls would intersect). The futuristic yet ancient look (large amount of technology in an Egyptian theme/Greek/romanesc world) look amazing with towering statues and huge levels and certain points, but while watching cut scenes a vehicle’s tires are cut in half by the ground rather than riding on top of it. It also featured the same graphics in the cut scenes as regular game play… meaning no extra effort just some different camera angels.

Play This break down for Too Human

Graphics: While certain aspects of the game did look amazing, the voice overs with characters speaking and the mouth motions of the characters were terribly aligned. The idea of the futuristic past is awesome, but sadly they seemed to of half assed it creating a bland and unfriendly viewing experience. 4/5

Game play: This is where the game hits a major low. In most action games, the targeting system, fighting type and enemies are key to making a successful game. This had terrible targeting systems, horrible fight action and the enemies were a joke.

Targeting system: While fighting an onslaught of enemies, which a majority of the time you will be, you can target two different enemies at the same time depending on your character. Well this would be super but you tend to lock on an enemy that you do not want to be shooting at; for example.. something rushing at your face and you decide to start shooting at everything else near you, even inanimate objects… The melee attacks are just as important as the gun related ones in this game, which brings us to the fighting.

Fighting: The “fun” level in playing Too Human is pretty dull to say the least. Simply move your control stick towards an enemy and you either shoot it, or with melee, you magically float instantly in front of it and smash it’s face in. Where is the challenge in this? granted as you level up so do the enemy and they resist attacks more, but why would I want to just appear in front of each enemy by pointing at them? The action in the game is pretty lame, flinging your self at an enemy is not always the best of ideas either, which of course brings us to the terrible enemies.

Enemies:A majority of the enemies in this game just require a quick smash to the face with a hammer/sword/melee attack weapon of sorts… there are of course larger ones like those that either randomly smash a large hammer down every 10 seconds, causing you to be pretty much screwed if any where near it. Until you get through a good bit of the game, chances are you will not even be able to get a gun that has the distance to shoot the guy without him smashing his hammer down and the shockwave constantly knocking you down. The enemies just tend to be bland and boring as well.

Game play continued: The most annoying part of the game is that when you get killed you must sit through an annoying cut scene of this angel like girl dropping down and reviving you. This happens every single time you die! While fighting bosses you tend to die often at the start of the game and this gets old quick. Maybe for the creators sake they simply did this as an effort to encourage you not to die. 2/5

Music: The sound effects and music were alright, nothing special but it did the game right. The only issue sound wise is that of the mismatch of mouths moving and the voice overs which tends to be annoying. So maybe we are perfectionists at Play This, but it can’t be that hard to spend an extra day making it look presentable. 4/5

Multiplayer: It seems a new way for game creators to force a multiplayer function into the usual one person game, is now becoming ever so common. Even in Fable 2 (although they did a much better job of this) it allows random people to join your game for co-op while in the middle of a game. This usually only is beneficial when it comes to those big hammer smashing enemies so one of you can distract it and the other making it your bitch. Mercenaries II also used this exact type of multiplayer, while it can be nice, it seems a bit uneven when a character with a level of 50 joins your game while you are at level 5 and pretty much does all the work for you. There is no balance to who can join and it’s not essential, you can’t even kill them! 3/5

Replayability: The game gets tiresome rather quickly and once you hit level 50 chances are you can just breathe on things and they will die. If you want to help out some n00bies by doing all the work for them it’s ok but otherwise it’s best to just rent this sucker.

Achievements: Where there even any? You get the basic complete level ones and some random 10G ones for doing stupid basic story line stuff. Nothing great here and it seems most of the things you need to do for achievements are specialized.

Overall: What else is there to say? It ended up being rather disappointing from the time we played th demo until the actual release. It is worth a try, but definitely not worth the money.

3.5/5 burritos for you Mr. halfass game. Oh… we mean Too Human:

Development History via wikipedia.org

In the May 2005 issue of EGM, Silicon Knights announced a partnership with publisher Microsoft to develop a trilogy revolving around the Too Human universe exclusively for the Xbox 360. The game was originally being developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3, but is now being developed using an internal engine. On July 19, 2007, it was announced that Silicon Knights was using Epic Games due to “breach of contract”, including “inadequacies” of Epic’s support, service, and cooperation with Silicon Knights concerning Unreal Engine 3. On August 9, 2007, Epic Games counter sued Silicon Knights, claiming that they were using their engine as they pleased without any cost. If Epic wins the case, Silicon Knights would be forced to pay in excess of $650,000.

Clearly this game and it’s concept is just a weeeee bit out of date.

editor@playthismag.com

Most video game series now a days the character’s age with each new addition to the set, Lara Croft on the other hand gets a younger, bad ass look. Tomb Raider games are known for their amazing graphics and cut scenes and this game is no exception.

A new playable demo for consoles and PC will not only show you what Croft can do, but makes you wonder why anyone would want to play Prince of Persia when you can be controlling a stacked chick with an endless arsenal of weapons. That and she seems to be a bit more flexible than an ancient Persian.

Graphics: This obviously is the best looking version of the Tomb Raider games, no more boxy characters or abnormal looking people, Croft is back and looking more real than ever. Once the full game is released it will be easier to tell the full extent to what bugs may occur, but for now the worlds look great and open and it runs on a smooth transition. 5/5

Music: Your basic video game music, no new age rock or radio station hits, but none the less it flows well for the game. Like a movie sound effects and music help build suspense and allow the views (or gamers) know what to be expecting. Subtle sounds and music help you quickly react to wild animals and gunfire coming your way. Not great in all, but not bad by any means. 5/5

Game play: Still no multiplayer for Tomb raider, but with this exception it’s just an improvement of the previous games. Learning from their mistakes and taking what gamers want most, Tomb Raider once again builds upon what a great puzzle minded, intelligent game this can be (you know with big guns and a “hot” babe too). It’s hard to find a great offline game like this now a day, but it’s definitely worth to pick up if you like applying your mind to a game and at the same time blowing shit up. Even if you don’t like these types it still looks amazing and at the very least is worth to rent. 5/5

Replayability: Choosing different modes of difficulty can help make this game replayable but as most games like this happen to be only fun a few times around. If only they created some half ass multiplayer.. is that to much to ask for? 3/5

Achievements: The achievements are pretty easy to get for the most part. By completing the game you get a large portion of them and the specialty ones are not entirely impossible. List of them are at the bottom of article. As you still have to beat the game to get a large portion it’s not a game to get to rack up on them. 4/5

Overall: We think this game is simply bad ass. Get it, play it, sell it to your nerdy friend who never gets any when your finished with it. Games are always ok for a sloppy second or even fifth.

To make things short and sweet, this game can be best described as: EPIC FAIL!

When the game is not repeating its terrible theme song or hearing the redneck lingo of Jeff Foxworthy the little kids in the game repeat the same things over and over again, as annoying as any real 10 year old. “Pick me, pick me, over here,” on repeat mode makes you want to run over each of the oddly ethnically polar opposite kids.

The questions are easy as pie and has made it even more obvious why there was never a reason for a person to watch the actual show. The graphics are shaky at best and look rather sloppy.

Clearly the sound track/music in the game are terrible unless you like the same kids bob sounding theme repeating mixed with a redneck accent, but hey who are we to judge.

Replayability: Simply put if you for whatever reason enjoy the show chances are you will like the game and be able to replay it. We think it’s trash but to eachs own.

This game gets a 1/5 on the Buritto rating system.
